Friendly Furniture v007 | Bespoke Games + Dog Tunnel + More
RC is a friendly design in the courtyard of a Houston, TX apartment complex. Located next to the communal laundry space, the friendly design leverages bespoke games to offer the residents interactive opportunities in their shared space and eye-catching art to inspire pride in the complex.
Friendly Research
Continuing our investigation of how to make a wall friendly, the wall is brightly colored to stand out, dramatically slopes and shifts opacities for more attention, and has playful openings to further arouse interest and curiosity. The wall is embedded with various leisure games that can be played independently or complementary with each other.
Building off existing Friendly research, FW v012 tests a new spatial strategy to promote Friendlyness.
Objective 1: Overlap leisure activities.
Strategic Response: The half-court corn hole is a response to the site conditions. A seat serves as both a unique backboard for the cornhole as well as another unique sitting opportunity. The backgammon and chess board table is positioned to double as a space for drinks while playing corn hole or as a demarcator from where one can toss the bean bag.
Takeaway: Games are so much fun when opportunities can be created to play as you wish!
RC is a super fun amenity space where the tenants are now inviting their friends to come over to hang because their building is the place to be.
